  • The roles and responsibilities of:
    • The Chief;
    • The Chief and Council;
    • Council Committees;
    • The Director of Operations; and
    • Members of the First Nation.
  • How to run an efficient Chief and Council Meeting;
  • What is a conflict of interest? (brief as part of a separate presentation)
  • How conflicts of interest are appropriately dealt with? (brief as part of a separate presentation)

  • First Nation Governance refers to the way in which a First Nation is directed and controlled.
  • On a First Nation the Chief and Council must:
    • Make decisions that are in the best interests of the First Nation and its members;
    • Be knowledgeable of all relevant policies;
    • Be knowledgeable of and compliant with all relevant legislation;
    • Promote responsible and transparent decision-making;
    • Be able to recognize, manage and mitigate risks; and
    • Manage funds responsibly.
